For the last year, I have been crocheting slouchy hats, scarves, messy bun hats, bookmarks and everything else you see on this blog for the Christmas Farmer’s Market that is happening next weekend. I am excited and really nervous. My mom and I have talked about doing this for years, it has taken me a long time to have the confidence to put my work out there.
I am terrified that we will get there and nobody will buy a thing. That my friends have only been buying things from me to be kind, not because they like it. But I am also excited, Pinterest and Instagram have helped to give me confidence in what I make. I didn’t do social media until I started this blog, and when I share my patterns and behind the scenes pics they get repinned and likes. So fingers crossed, we do ok at the show and this becomes a way I can use my hobby to supplement my income.
Today we have a simple slouchy hat, that can look quite fancy depending on the yarn used. I have found that simple patterns work well with a variegated or multicolor yarn. With a complicated pattern, the focus is still on the colors in the yarn and the stitches get lost.
If you prefer a printable PDF of this pattern you can find it in my Etsy store.
What You Need
- 1 skein worsted weight yarn (for this I used Barcelona by loops and Threads)
- 5mm Crochet Hook
- darning needle
- ch – chain
- slst – slip stitch
- sc – single crochet
- blo – back loop only
- dc – double crochet
- dc dec – double crochet decrease
- st – stitch
The chain 1(2) at the beginning of each row is not counted, and do not work in it. Slip Stitch to the first single (double) crochet in the round, and work the first stitch of that row in the same stitch as the chain.
