The next four blog posts are going to be crochet cables, starting with this simple cable scarf. If you are new to crochet cables this is a good way to get your feet wet.
I purchased this yarn from Etsy from a seller that was destashing, but you can use any yarn that you have around. The yarn I used was a 4 weight, which would be the minimum.
The buttons I lucked out and found at the dollar store, they are made from coconut husk.
What You Need
- 200 grams/350 meters of worsted weight yarn
- 4.5mm crochet hook
- darning needle
- 6 buttons
Stitches Used
- ch – chain
- dc – double crochet
- fpdc – front post double crochet
- fptc- front post triple crochet
- st – stitch
Simple Cable Scarf Pattern
Ch 26
Row 1 – Dc in the third ch from hook, and in each st across. ch 2, turn
Row 2 – Dc in next 3 st, fpdc over next 3, *dc in next 4 st, fpdc over next 3* repeat across, dc in last 4 st. ch2, turn
Row 3 – Dc in each st across. ch2, turn
Row 4 – Dc in next 3 st, fptc over next 3 (reaching down to fpdc from row 2 now and throughout) *dc in next 4 st, fptc over next 3* repeat across, dc in last 4 st. ch 2, turn.
Row 5 – Dc in each st across. ch 2, turn
Row 6 – Dc in next 3 st, *fptc over next 3, dc in next 4 st* repeat across.
Repeat rows 5&6 until you are happy with the length.
Fasten off and bury ends.
Center buttons on the cable and sew three on each end.
